Jan. 7-8: 16th annual Key Largo Sailfish Challenge out of Sundowners on the Bay at mile marker 103.9. Cash prizes and trophies awarded to the top three teams. Dec. 31: The Hendry-Glades Audubon Society is participating in the 112th Christmas Bird Count starting at 7 a.m. at Stormwater Treatment Area 5 in Hendry County. The STA, which is managed by the South Florida Water Management District, attracts a variety of ducks and wading birds. Last year the count documented 105 species and more than 96,400 birds.
